1 Corinthians 12:6-8 CJB says this: “ And there are different modes of working, but it is the same God working them all in everyone. Moreover, to each person is given the particular manifestation of the Spirit that will be for the common good. To one, through the Spirit, is given a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge, in accordance with the same Spirit…”
Like the Word of Knowledge, the Word of Wisdom COMES DIRECTLY FROM GOD. It is supernatural wisdom that is not formed from the mechanisms of a man’s intelligence, intellect, book knowledge or natural understanding. Rather, it given to us by revelation from the Father.
Wisdom in general can be defined this way for the believer: It is the mature application of knowledge in and through specific situations in our lives – through which good judgment is exercised in making sound, solid decisions. This type of wisdom often comes as a result of our life experiences or lessons learned through hard knocks. God is also working in this kind of wisdom.
However, the “Word of wisdom” can be defined this way: It is the applicaton of the supernatural knowledge of God given to men for specific circumstances and situations. This type of wisdom specifically releases strategies and solutions; and generally has nothing whatsoever to do with one’s life experiences or lessons learned through hard knocks. Like the Word of Knowledge, Father will simply “give you” the strategy or solution. You will “JUST GET” a Word of direction, insight or strategy AND the instructions on HOW to walk it out.
Strong and mature ministers of the Gospel walk heavily in this anointing, especially if they shepherd the Lord’s people. I have learned that ONE’S MATURITY & OBEDIENCE in the things of God is often revealed out of this gifting by the Spirit.
The scriptures define the phrase “Word of Wisdom” this way:
I Corinthians 2:6-7 CJB says this: Yet there is a wisdom that we are speaking to those who are mature enough for it. But it is not the wisdom of this world or of this world’s leaders, who are in the process of passing away. 7 On the contrary, we are communicating a SECRET WISDOM from God which has been hidden until now but which, before history began, God had decreed would bring us glory.
As the Lord revealed this to me, I grew to understand that there are different kinds of wisdom that we can walk in as believers. For example, I know leaders in the body who walk in a powerful anointing to parent or Father God’s people. With that, Father has given them “Words of wisdom” to handle certain situations as they arise. When they walk out God’s directives in these areas or apply this wisdom, those entire situations change — sometimes immediately. I know a woman who is gifted in working with difficult people in the workplace. She’s a prophet, intercessor and a pastor. God gives her “Words of wisdom” continuously in that environment that has shut down all kinds of distractions and disasters.
This kind of wisdom is is only released to those who are MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT as mentioned in the scriptures above. It is a kind of wisdom that requires heavenly understanding – not intellectual understanding, meaning that of the flesh. It is a complete LEANING into the Father whether we can see the “sense” of what He has told us to do or not.
Ephesians 1:15-19 further defines the “Word of wisdom” here, “For this reason, ever since I heard about your trust in the Lord Yeshua and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you. In my prayers I keep asking the God of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the glorious Father, to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you will have full knowledge of him. I pray that he will give light to the eyes of your hearts, so that you will understand the hope to which he has called you, what rich glories there are in the inheritance he has promised his people… “
The Word of Wisdom IS NOT the same as the Word of Knowledge! This is critically important — as so many have tried to make it so. It is the supernatural revealing of the KNOWLEDGE THAT GOD HAS to His servants and the release of UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO APPLY that knowledge He has revealed. You see, the key word here is “APPLY OR APPLICATION.”
In other words, the supernatural strategy that tells you how to APPLY THAT KNOWLEDGE is WHERE the WISDOM lies.
Let me say that in another way. KNOWLEDGE is ineffective to the Sons of God without God-directed understanding concerning how it is to be applied. Such is the difference between between SUPERNATURAL wisdom and natural wisdom (learning from experience). The Word of wisdom is NOT dependent on what you did or what you have learned or what you’ve experienced. It is totally dependent on God’s direction… and your faith to believe what HE has spoken.
For the mature sons of God, the Word of Wisdom is the beginning of STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT AND MATURE REVELATION concerning the things of God. You cannot have true WORD OF WISDOM without the understanding of its application. It’s not possible…. as it GIVES LIGHT TO THE EYES OF YOUR HEARTS SO THAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE HOPE TO WHICH HE HAS CALLED YOU.
Please keep in mind that the Word of Wisdom is also a “knowing.” What do I mean by this? I simply mean that there can be situations or circumstances that come into your life that are IMPOSSIBLE for man to overcome in the natural; and then suddenly, that Son of God will just “KNOW” what to do. It’s as if the “plan or strategy” is dropped into one’s Spirit and without hesitation it is walked out.
If you are a SEASONED AND MATURE, you will find yourself walking in this 24-hours a day, 7-days a week in some form. Can every believer have this “Word of Wisdom?” The answer to this question is this: “YES! We all have access to it. Father releases a measure of wisdom to us daily. Father can choose to release HIS MIND to us at any time… but the truth of the matter is this – not everyone will recognize or even receive this gift.”
SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THE WORD OF WISDOM IN OPERATION:
- Daniel received a Word of Wisdom during his time of captivity with King Nebuchadnezzer. He was instructed to FAST & PRAY — not knowing what the Lord intended to do. That Word of wisdom led Daniel to great victorys and prominence all for God’s glory during his time. (Daniel 1-2)
- Jacob received a word of wisdom concerning his bondage to Laban. That Word led him to separate the spotted sheep from the one’s without. As a result, he earned his freedom. (Genesis 30)
- Esther received a Word of Wisdom to save her people. She called a three-day fast and saved an entire nation. Esther wasn’t sure what the end would be, but she trusted the Word of Wisdom that she received and walked it out. You can also look at Mordecai as an example. (Esther 1-8)
There are MANY other examples in the scriptures of Sons who have walked out Words of wisdoms they have received. There are also stories of those who did not head the Word of Wisdom. I encourage you to remember these things:
- The Word of Wisdom comes directly from our Father;
- The Word of Wisdom is an example of the Lord using the “foolish things” to confound the wise;
- The Word of Wisdom is a place of strategy, application and great revelation;
- The Word of Wisdom is the secret wisdom of God;
- The Word of Wisdom is only effective when applied;and
- The Word of Wisdom has a time-table – depending on the situation.
This isn’t intended to cover everything, but it should give you a starting point in your pursuit of understanding this term when released.
