#2: Scribes Must Write for Intimacy (10/18/06)
Theresa Harvard Johnson
Your Challenge: Try this today or tomorrow, and then post what God gives you.
For a long time, I would wait until God spoke to me to write a poem, prophecy, teaching or other type of prophetic writing. Then one day as I sat with my pen and notebook in hand, I simply asked God, "What do you have to say today? What is on your heart for me God?"
At that moment, my writing process changed. I realized that God used the "suddenlies" in my growth to begin to help me understand who I was as a scribe. But then, he began to teach me what I was capable of hearing and writing if I'd simply present my gift to him in this way. The thing is, I had an intimate relationship with him. I journaled and often poured my heart out to my daddy. In return, he would comfort me with scriptures and remind me of the plans that he had revealed for my life through prophetic words, dreams, and visions. This intimacy came with prayer, bible study, hearing the preached word … and activating what I was getting. Many, many times I missed the mark. But let me tell you, there was nothing like going back to him for a second, third, fourth or even a fifth time.
We must write for intimacy or for the purpose of obtaining a tightly knit relationship with God. We must seek God at every opportunity and do so diligently. An earlier post this week talked about writing for worship. Well, they are one and the same. Worship ushers us into the presence of God … and it is there that we are intimate with him.
I URGE you today not to limit God to speaking to you only in the wee hours of the night or to dropping little nuggets in your spirit at odd times during the day. Instead, take your pen and paper. Find a quiet place or perhaps turn on your worship music and just spend time with God. Then ask him, "Father, what is on your heart today?"
He will speak.
Proverbs 8:16-17
By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges and governors of the earth. I love those who love me, and those who seek me early and diligently shall find me.
