Prophetic Writing vs.Christian Writing: Is there a difference?

Yes, there is.

Prophetic writers are indeed Christian writers, meaning we believe fully in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ (Yeshua). The difference, however, lies in our approach to writing and the focus of our ministry.

Before continuing, there are many writers who are indeed prophetic (writing and releasing the heart and mind of Father) who do not see the need to identify themselves as prophetic. They are simply following the inspiration of the Spirit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. As a people, we must walk within our own metron.

However, there is a small population of writers who do see themselves as prophetic — and who choose to embrace it, and travel deeply into that understanding. (Voices of Christ is here specifically for them, as there are very few – if any ministries – that are solely focused on this revelation for this population of writers with this level of intensity.)

The prophetic writer or prophetic scribe writes by the moving or stirring of the Spirit of the Lord. In other words, they only write and develop what they believe they hear Father speak into their Spirit. Their poetry, spoken word, books of instruction, prophecy, children’s books, novels and other forms of writing are given to them and developed in the midst of their spiritual maturation, prayer and meditation process.

In addition, like the prophets of old, their writing has one primary objective: To publish the heart and mind of God for His people in the way that it is released to them so that those who are assigned to what they release are enlightened, awakened, instructed, matured, comforted, edified, etc. If the Lord isn’t speaking, then that prophetic scribe isn’t writing. Their central focus is to see the people of God fully reconciled to him.

In short, the prophetic scribe still believes that a believer born of the Spirit can operate under the Acts 2:14-18 anointing to prophesy by the stirring of the Spirit of the Lord within them.

The scripture reference reads: But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them:

You Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be [explained] to you so that you will know and understand; listen closely to what I have to say.

For these men are not drunk, as you imagine, for it is [only] the third hour (about 9:00 a.m.) of the day;

But [instead] this is [the beginning of] what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [[b]telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions ([c]divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams.

Yes, and on My menservants also and on My maidservants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy [[e]telling forth the divine counsels and [f]predicting future events pertaining especially to God’s kingdom].

Christian writing has a standard and expectancy that is firmly established and expected in the hearts and minds of men. Prophetic writing, however, does not… as of yet. It is just breaking forth into a place of GREATER understanding in the midst of the assembly in this present season. The revelation concerning prophetic writing and the ministry of the prophetic scribe has come to make this statement: “There is more to what you have been called to do… than what you’ve been introduced to simply as a Christian writer. Take a chance, and go deeper into your identity in the Spirit.”

That’s it. That’s the message Father has given me in the midst of the ministry entrusted to my hands. By NO MEANS are we saying we are better than ANYONE. Nor or we saying that EVERY SINGLE CHRISTIAN WRITER needs to know what we teach. Again, we are here for those who are BEING PULLED BY THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD into this area. These specific writers are declaring that they want MORE. They want to GO DEEPER. They are saying, “There’s got to be more than to my call than what I am experiencing. Take me deeper into understanding this passion, this fire you’ve placed in me to write.”

Personally, I believe (and teach) that Father can speak through any gift He has given — whether the writer acknowledges that they are prophetic; recognizes the prophetic or even if they are not prophetic. However, for those who are being awakened in their spirit man to this unique call, there is a place of understanding, wisdom and knowledge that Father wants to bring them into. Were it not so, He wouldn’t have placed this unquenchable desire to “hear him or see him” and then release what is “heard or seen” into the earth realm.

You see, the prophetic scribe “seeks first and foremost” to publish the heart and mind of Father (Deuteronomy 32:1-3). They hold 1 Corinthians 14:39 dear as it relates to their lives and ministries. It says, “So [to conclude], my brethren, earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying (on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God’s will and purpose), and do not forbid or hinder speaking in [unknown] tongues.“

The prophetic scribe digs into his or her relationship with the Lord concerning what to write, publish or release; and while they seek to reach others with their writing… they recognize that prophetically inspired Words are only for those specific people to whom they are assigned. It was this way in the days of Moses and Christ, and so it is today.

The purpose of The Scribal Anointing® is this: To restore the Christian writer’s identity and understanding of their call from Father’s perspective — verses that of the world’s academia. We believe this understanding draws the writer’s heart closer to Father, his will and his purposes… that we might truly be instruments for the ministry of reconciliation and restoration of which we’ve been given.
