#1 If someone writes a “BOOK REVIEW” for your book – whether in-depth or short, remember it is a “book review” — not a foreword or endorsement designed to be printed in their completed, copyrighted manuscript. To use it in this way can be very deceptive. Some self-published authors seem to walk in confusion concerning this. Book reviews serve a very specific function… and are not to be considered FOREWORDS. The book review is also copyrighted by the person who penned it….

#2 It is NOT OKAY to ask someone to write a FOREWORD for your manuscript then you, as an author, completely re-write the book (changing the meaning/focus/title significantly) and add chapters AFTER a person has written a FOREWORD based on what you originally presented to them. The courteous thing to do is to notify them, offer them the opportunity to “review” what you have written so that they can decide whether or not to revise or withdraw the foreword. Failing to do so is also deceptive. Why? Because they supported what you GAVE THEM not what you REVISED.
