There’s absolutely nothing like a “do-nothing-day.” You know – staying in your pajamas or favorite jeans all day, curling up with a hot cup of tea, a bowl of popcorn and watching movies. For most of us this is a rare treat as we move through our busy lives.
There is, however, another dimension to this for the prophetic scribe.
Our “do-nothing-days” are filled with the urgency to write or otherwise engage in scribal ministry. We long for the relaxing, yet urgent press to shut-in and create. This isn’t the usual call to enter into our craft; rather… this is a time to put away every possible distraction and enter into the “chamber of the scribe” to rest, nest, hear and create.
This is that time of the year for me. And the clarion call to “rest-nest-hear-create” is often so strong that it can hardly be contained as Holy Spirit beckons us to come. I have come to know that all prophetic scribes – as they mature – will come to experience and enjoy a special season in their lives in which God leads them away for an intensive time of developing The Scribal AnointingÒ in them.
John 6:44-45 CJB says, “No one can come to me unless the Father — the One who sent me — draws him. And I will raise him up on the Last Day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘They will all be taught by Adonai.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.”
Yes, I know the traditional way that this passage is interpreted. But as I meditated on the most important “seasons” in our scribal process, God affirmed this truth in me: He is always drawing us, raising us up and teaching us. For those of us after his heart, we are equally experiencing seasons of intensity in which we LISTEN and LEARN from him.
Nesting, as I have come to understand it, is best understood in the context of the activities mothers often engage in instinctively in preparation for childbirth. Amazingly, it is a process that is common in the animal kingdom as well as among humanity. While it is almost entirely defined by organizing and spring cleaning, the heart of it is simply “preparation” which involves everything from personal healing, planning and building to developing, creating and completing any necessary tasks in preparation for that birth or new life. In this sense, there is no gender association. The key here is this: “This is a required place of Holy Spirit directed solitude and incubation.”
And when we have truly followed Holy Spirit’s leading and remained in his presence during this time, we emerge with understanding, fulfillment, clear instruction and direction… as we are taught of the Lord.
Every SERIOUS prophetic scribe will develop a pattern or a process exclusively between them and the Lord in which they will be “drawn to him” or “beckoned to come.” This clarion call into the chamber of the scribe is CRITICAL for our continued development, growth and the expansion of our ministries. You see, these are times that “GOD HIMSELF” has set aside to meet with you verses those times WE set aside to meet with him. There are treasures, outpouring, revelation, healing, instruction, direction, etc. in His appointed meetings that we cannot obtain anywhere else.
Exodus 33:14 NIV says, “The Lord replied, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
When I hear God’s call, there is a spiritual urgency to come and then to “develop, write, review” or otherwise engage in scribal activity that I cannot shake or dismiss. As the clarion call increases, my thoughts and heart are consistently overwhelmed by a desire to enter-into God’s presence. The desire literally becomes a longing that cannot be ignored.
Scribes of the King, don’t miss these moments. It is here that many of your scribal requests will be answered! It is also here that you will have to overcome your greatest enemy: DISTRACTION. You see, your resting-nesting-hearing-creative season is designed and destined to produce a continuous harvest.
Perhaps the greatest reward of this time with the Lord is growing in intimacy with Him and grasping what it means to work out your scribal process. This intimacy creates the vehicle by which you continue growing and maturing not only in your gift, calling, creativity or revelation, but also in OBEDIENCE, holiness, understanding and wisdom. It is here that you learn to appreciate His presence in the midst of your calling. Embrace your times and seasons of incubation within your scribal ministry, and watch The Scribal Anointing upon your life thrive and flourish.
