How important is discipline in writing?

Posted on 05/11/2018 by Theresa Harvard Johnson

Response to a question (Feb. 20, 2018):

Discipline in the act of writing is CRITICAL to the life of a prophetic scribe — regardless of the type of scribe you are (administrative, creative or instructional). There’s something about “pen in hand” that activates ALL LEVELS of the scribal anointing. For this reason, I always recommend journaling for scribes — even if its only for five minutes a day. God can take a one line scribble, and turn it into a love letter to him or a powerful encouraging response.

Failing to be consistent in this is the NUMBER ONE REASON prophetic people struggle to finish their books, and perhaps move forward in other scribal projects. Interestingly, the academic arena teaches that the “practice of writing” is the key to “unlocking THE WRITER.” For prophetic people, however, the intentional act of writing will release “The Scribal Anointing.” I like thinking of it this way, praying everyday has the potential to cause the person to become “skilled in prayer” — meaning learning how to pray effectively and intentionally. The same is true for writing in impacting the life of the scribe.

Consistency is the heart beat of this conversation. In the spirit realm, every action builds momentum…. and eventually, that momentum will reach a breaking point in which it BREAKS THROUGH or breaks something free. This concept can also be found in “unceasing prayer.” Unceasing prayer produces momentum… and it builds a hedge. ALL THINGS PROPHETIC have prayer patterns like this…

So, when we do not develop a writing discipline… we leave gaps that could provide clear pathways to greater.
