The realm of the scribe is HUGE. The more I study about this specific designation given to Solomon, the more I dig out His realm and feel the need to do a part II of my teaching on, “The Scribal Realm of Solomon.” It’s available through the Scribe School and will add so much to this little nugget. So much MORE has broken open for me about Him due to this one word.
First, it simply confirms the depth of that teaching. Secondly, it opens up a very specific dimension on “Solomon’s dream realm AND the extremely unique impartation of wisdom He received from God.”
Solomon’s designation as the wisest man in all of Israel speaks specifically of this scribal type: the QOHELETH, a preaching COLLECTOR OF SENTENCES.
There are two treasures in this designation as I meditate and study that resonates profoundly with me:
- Solomon was able to store up wisdom in a way that expressed collective, compounding and profound understanding on viewing life on earth and in heaven. He wasn’t just “dropping nuggets” but building principles for Kingdom living that WERE ALL CONNECTED in a conclusive body of work.
For example, he would have been able to understand zoology in those seasons the Lord gave him understanding of animals and expertly turn that knowledge into parables like God did with the ants and birds. He would have been able to garner the understanding of the cosmos into astronomy… reclaiming the creation under the mantle of God’s power. In other words, any understanding of the sun, moon and stars would have dug deeply into revealing eternity and majesty of God. The Book of Ecclesiastes is a profound example of how he viewed the world through “the wisdom of God” — collecting sentences while preaching “connected” and “comprehensive” truth. There is a mastery in this that is rare and uncommon in the scribal realm.
- The designation of the term ”Qoheleth” is also extremely personal and almost exclusive to Solomonic wisdom. It is literally designated as a description of “a son of David.” That is powerful! In my studies on scribal callings, this is only one of three words so far that carry statements like that — making it critically clear to whom it refers, leaving no room for ambiguity or other broad interpretations. It is a word that sits on the shoulders of Solomon like messiah sits on the shoulders of Christ. There is only one… original Qoheleth as a human and it was Solomon. (We know Christ is the ultimate Qoheleth.)
But how amazing it is that the grace of this calling can still have application among some today. Whew…
Solomon’s call speaks profoundly of collecting great wisdom and “investing in” and “investigating” the deeper weight of that wisdom in the Lord. This position is the scribal realm is so focused, intent and intense. It’s so precise that it should be considered, in my understanding, to be different from “the preacher” we designate as like a pastor or expouser of scripture. I am convinced IT IS NOT the same thing… especially since that is not who Solomon was. Rather this is specifically a scribal release that sits in the creative, scribal realm.
