Not to long ago I advised someone who didn’t feel as if they were “unique” enough in their calling.
They were desperate to stand out “like other people.”
The trouble with this, at least for me is that believers are increasingly becoming FIXATED on this topic. If we look closely at it, we will discover that people are drowning in "outer appearances" and obssessing over "how other people view them" instead of embracing the beauty of simply existing in WHO they were created to be in Christ. The real issue, from a scriptural perspective, is a lack of identity, not an issue of uniqueness.
Our focus should be on being made whole, achieving perfection in Christ's design for us…. and concerning ourselves with having our being in him.
The person I was speaking to couldn’t see this, wasn’t trying to see it and was convinced that I was not understanding “what they were trying to convey.”
The thing is: I did get it!
Acknowledging that I understood what they were saying is important, but it JUST IS NOT AS IMPORTANT as embracing this truth: The depth of your sonship ALWAYS UNCOVERS the uniqueness in us when we become whole, synced with Holy Spirit and set in our sonship.
Pursing this area of the flesh and one of the prevailing spirit's of this age doesn’t change the truth of “what that the pursuit of uniqueness is before the Lord: A serious case of mind-bending lack-of-identity that sucks THE VERY LIFE out of one’s EXISTENCE, calling and ministry.
We are all unique!
What we need most, however, is a the kind of wholeness and identity that fit us perfectly with our purpose and destiny. What we need is to know how to be effective in the measure in which we have been called with all humility and truth.
SO MANY PEOPLE ARE IN TROUBLE IN THEIR SOULS! They believe BRANDING can fix the problems they face with invisibility and value. Unfortunately, being unique does NOT fix continuous identity crises. In the long run it exacerbates the problem.
A CRAVING FOR UNIQUENESS MIGHT ACTUALLY REVEAL:
An Inability to receive God’s perfect love
A desire to be accepted and to belong
A perception that one is not good enough
A longing for re-inventing instead of soul-healing
A unnatural focus on self and people
The facades of the outer self, masks
A fixation with outer appearances
A longing for popularity, self-grandisment
Misinterpretation of the purpose of branding
A people pleasing stronghold
Lust for fame/popularity
…and a whole lot of narcissism.
It’s a part of a prevailing stronghold that has a death grip on many people in this century at nauseating levels.
My advice was and still is simple: “Allow time for the Lord to heal your identity.”
When we are focused on Christ-alone, seeking immersion at every possible turn… we won’t have to fight or struggle to be “unique” in the eyes of others. We will learn to appreciate who we are. We will learn at the hands of Holy Spirit to simply BE ourselves and to press in to what the Lord has for us.
We will recognize our potential and learn to maximize it. We will never feel as if we have to project facades on people… demanding that they look at us or that we look at them.
There is GREAT SICKNESS among the congregation today and extreme distortion… and confusion surrounding what is pleasing to God. People LOOK & COVET & CONTRAST & COMPARE too much!
There is only confusion and vanity in that. BE THE PERSON WHO LOVES JESUS ABOVE ALL ELSE! Let us break the bonds of this world!
I, Theresa, must accept that I can ONLY BE me! And to be healthy, I have to learn to accept wherever I am in my process. I won't get to do this again…. meaning live this over as if from the start.
Being unique BEFORE GOD… is a juxtaposition to being unique before people. My God I pray we come to understand that! May God help us all…
Listen, the creative community suffers greatly here in that striving mindset. Many folk can be found in this place… in this hour. But the Lord is waiting and ready to receive our confessions and lasting repentance. He is ready to reveal our uniqueness in Him.
Know that you are loved. Know that you are chosen… and that being loved by Him is enough. #chamberofthescribe
