Capacity is another “dirty word” found in the discussion surrounding spiritual and natural growth and maturity.
People hate this word because they believe it limits their ability and function or blocks their advancement. The truth is, capacity does just the opposite.
It’s true nature reveals the expanse and depth of our potential. It sets boundaries around us and declares: You can go only this far at this time for your own good. It bids us to live inside purpose and within the freedoms of our DIVINE MEASURE.
Understanding Capacity
You see, I will never be an astronaut, a brain surgeon or a professional ballet dancer no matter how much I want it or pray about it. It’s not within the confines of my capacity.
Capacity as I see it, can be defined as understanding how much you can produce within the calling, purpose and destiny set before you. It answers this question: How much can I accomplish within the divine design the Lord has for my life.
In my previous post on tethering, we saw how extending ourselves outside of our CAPACITY could severely cripple our destiny.
Hindrances To Your Capacity
You see, hindrances to capacity include:
- coveting what is not in your natural or spiritual capacity to accomplish,
- striving for unrealistic and unattainable goals given your situation or circumstance;
- resisting the capacity one has been given, and/or
- failing to realize and walk in your potential at all.
Father said to me, “TELL MY PEOPLE THAT THEIR CAPACITY IS NOT A CURSE! Let them know that the very things I have given them to do are critical to their role in my kingdom…. with every soul positioned as I have designated it. Different callings have different capacities, different purposes and are… set aside to accomplish my will within the boundaries I have set. Do not despise your capacity. Do not despise your boundaries.”
Job 38:8-11, “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?”
No Longer Covet The Gifts of Others
We are living in a time when coveting is so rampant that false vision, false destiny and false pursuit have taken place.
We have a world full of Hananiahs trying to emulate Jeremiah instead of following their own path (Jeremiah). Sadly, Hananiah did not have the capacity to walk out Jeremiah’s calling… and it cost him.
I heard Father say: “YOU ARE ENOUGH! Your measure, if it is embraced, has a profound capacity for impact WITHIN THE MEASURE YOU ARE CALLED! But you beloved, must lay down the resistance, lay down the offense… and embrace your portion. You beloved are being called to SEE THE BEAUTY OF WHO YOU ARE AND STOP LOOKING! Your capacity isn’t a hindrance, but a blessing within the identity Inhave placed in you. Stop competing! Stop exalting the high imaginations beyond your reach. Trust that I have no respecter of persons… and give to each man according to my design.”
Sometimes, we need redirection when we are off path — especially in a world with their eyes fixed on fame, fortune, uniqueness and standing out.
This post is not about dumbing down, lowering ones expectation, killing dreams, etc. Rather, it’s about alignment so you and I can be the very best us we can… right where we are …..right now.
Capacity demands that we produce “what was placed in us to produce”… not necessarily everything “we see, want and beg to be placed in us to do.”
This message is for me FIRST. IF PEOPLE ARE TRUTHFUL, many have been in this place of extending outside our measure into places where we did not have the capacity to produce. Let us learn from it… and ask Holy Spirit to help us embrace our portion day by day.
