I heard Father say: “This is the time to keep your WORD to YOURSELF!”
Yep. That’s what I heard. To me, this is a powerful statement.
Most of us know what it is like when people break their promises. And if we are truthful with ourselves, we also know that we have deeply wounded others because we have not kept our WORD to them.
Good Intentions Can Be Obstacles
You see, good intentions not followed through can cause tremendous pain. Just ask a child whose parent spent a lifetime breaking their word. Many adults today are still walking out the fallout of that kind of disappointment.
This morning I thought: HOW MANY OF US ARE DOING THIS VERY THING TO OURSELVES? WHAT IF THE FRUSTRATION, DISAPPOINTMENTS, LACK OF MOTIVATION, DISCOURAGEMENT… AND EVEN THE ABILITY TO START AND FINISH… COMES FROM THIS DARK, SELF-INFLICTED TORMENT?
If you know me, then you know I love prayer. I can still remember the day, over 17 years ago when I realized I was asking the Lord “to do something in me” that I had the power to do myself.
Listen, I had to stop disappointing ME!
I had to show up for THERESA! I had to recognize that more was required of me FOR ME if I wanted to see the destiny and purpose placed before me become reality. (Check out the article, “Battling Lost Identity” )
There Is No Magic
That Holy-Spirit-Magic mindset had to go!
I trained myself to STOP procrastinating. I disciplined myself concerning writing.
Becoming a finisher was my focus. It was necessary to put in the effort to be productive. I developed NEW habits and kicked old ones to the curb.
I had to stop making vows and promises to absolutely EVERYONE and then overwhelming myself with things I absolutely could not do. (I’ve had to check myself recently on that one.)
You get the picture.
Strength In Weakness
So, now when I pray I ask Holy Spirit to stand with me in my weaknesses. I’m not asking Holy Spirit to DO what is ordained for ME to DO in my planning, effort and common sense.

Not only do we enter frustrated when people disappoint us, BUT LORD KNOWS we can DISAPPOINT ourselves much more.
It’s time to rise up as prophetic scribes.
THE NEWNESS WE SEEK IS NEVER OUTWARD WITHIN THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF OUR SONSHIP! IT IS WITHIN.
You DO NOT have to remain disappointed in YOU. You’d be surprised how much moving forward adds to your love for YOURSELF.
And yes, disappointment happens… but MY GOODNESS… don’t live there! YOU ARE YOUR NEW YEAR!
