Part I: Holy Spirit is the best book editor

Posted on 01/06/202201/10/2022 by Theresa Harvard Johnson

Scribes, one of the reasons why I love being a prophetic writer who pursues IMMERSION is that it teaches me not to rely on my own creative ability and imagination, but to make sure my imagination is HOLY!

1 Corinthians 2:16 says, “The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. 16“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”

The first LINE OF DEFENSE against error and darkness for the PROPHETIC WRITER begins with the “heart they have before the Lord” – not how we think the book should flow or the opinions of others concerning it.

Our idea stream is a river that flows from the purity of the Spirit.

That place is free from our wayward ideas and committed to one thing: “Representing the Lord according to HIS MIND in us as submitted sons.”

We ARE DESIGNED TO JUDGE what we write and release as prophetic people. (It’s why I wrote my book, “Spiritually Critiquing Literary Works,” and have walked MANY prophetic scribes through that process over the past two decades.)

The PROPHETIC DECLARES this song just like Moses wrote it over 4,000 years ago in Deut. 32:2-3, “Let my teaching fall like rain and my speech settle like dew, like gentle rain on new grass, like showers on tender plants. For I will proclaim the name of the LORD.”

Principles To Follow

There are principles in the two scriptures I’ve shared that should reign, rain and rein heavily within us:

1. Whatever we produce honors the Lord IN HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

2. We are SET APART PEOPLE not of common cause, reason or pattern.

3. We are TEMPLES of Holy Spirit who is well able to reveal the Lord’s heart to us in creative, revelatory ways without leading us into compromise.

4. We are not called, as sons, to lean into our own understanding.

A pursuit of THE PROPHETIC (which is Holy Spirit at work in, through and around us) positions us for a HOLY, PURE writing life… A HOLY IMAGINATION.

For this reason, I often tell creatives not to rely on their own understanding. Instead, make every effort in their lives to pursue immersion — loving God with ALL their hearts, soul, mind and strength.

This isn’t a boring place, but an imaginative, holy position in the MIND OF GOD.  THE LORD. IS. PURE.

We are called to be like Him in that purity.

Editing With Holy Spirit

Remember, words have POWER. We are stewards of GOD’S WORD in the earth as they enter the gates of HIS people.

It is time to remember that we are responsible for every WORD that leaves our mouths and make memorials on paper, digital, visual and audio platforms.

We are responsible for leaving people in PURITY.

Prophetic writers are under a different mandate and assignment because they are declaring that they “write the words or interpret the vision the Lord HIMSELF is releasing to them.”

An IMMERSED LIFE will purify the voice of Holy Spirit on the inside of us.

Be Convention

It will cause conviction as we learn more of the Lord – what He wants from us, what He wants FOR US and discover HOW He wants to be represented.

Not one PROPHETIC biblical writer compromised the message of the Lord to reach the people God created. Rather, they learned to trust the voice of the Lord within them to lead and guide by direct prophecy, song, teaching or by parable.

We have been empowered to do the same.

I often challenge prophetic writers to make sure they credit the Lord for HIS WORDS, not their own. Many can write books and have success with them, but not many SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES PROPHETIC. (Check out, “Four Things A Scribe Must Do.”)
