One of the most valuable pieces of advice I was given was this: STAY IN YOUR LANE.
This has nothing to do with minding your own business, not overstepping, etc., it is not that conversation.
This “STAY IN YOUR LANE” is about becoming an expert in THE AREA assigned for YOU BY GOD and becoming the BEST AUTHORITY possible in it. It is ABOUT BLOCKING DISTRACTIONS so you become that specialist.
To do this, there are some disciplines I teach those I lead. STAYING IN YOUR LANE once you find your voice is one of them.
STAYING IN YOUR LANE IN THIS CONVO MEANS:
1. IT MEANS TAKING THE TIME to develop and nurture your voice into a distinctive sound. SOUND means, core message and your position, concerning that message.
2. IT MEANS CULTIVATING YOUR GROUND. This is done by “increasing your space” and staying out of situations, circumstances, activities, and conversations THAT DO NOT INCREASE your designated space. Experts are experts because they TEND AND PROTECT THEIR OWN fields, nurture soil, and eradicate the weeds.
3. IT MEANS WALKING DELIBERATELY AND QUIETLY within that lane until the expertise runs like water… and becomes natural to you.
There is such EASE in this place. A good mentor cultivates this place in mentees and WAITS FOR THIS PLACE to open up. Your personal development matters.
You are more than an echo of someone else’s vision AND FIGHT.
It is NOT OUR PORTION to be all over the place. When we find that pathway, we must become stable in it.
