Spiritual Violence: Passionate Prayer Poems

The spirit of King David comes forcefully through the pages of Spiritual Violence: Passionate Prayer Poems written by David Gumlia.  They vividly capture the authors desperation and pursuit of God’s presence and a cry for us to do the same. It is truly prophetic, at least to me, that he shares this patriarchs name.

Like King David, there is an overflow of deep love and affection for God. At the same time, there is a constant, consistent reminder that we are merely human in His presence and that  He is a God to be feared.

“When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.” – John F. Kennedy

This former president understood the impact of poetry upon a man’s consciousness. It’s no surprise that for centuries, societies around the world has valued its existence. They have embraced its ability to describe a generation and capture cultural sentiment. They have welcomed its observance of the depths of love and the intense magnitude of loss. They’ve even watched poetry evolve, capturing beauty in ways that can only be complimented by the limitless expression of art, music and dance. Poetry is an art form that is without limitations and one that always has an audience – even if that audience is of one.

Book Review: As the Deer Pants for Streams of Water

As the Deer Pants for Streams of Water

If I were to list two things that we all share along life’s journey, I would place the words “love and loss” at the top of that list. Why? Well, they are both as common to the progression of our existence as air and water.

In her book, “As the Deer Pants for Streams of Water,” author Michelle Addison Jones pulls into the drive-way of deep pain, gets out of the vehicle, walks to the other side and opens the passenger door —  inviting you to sit down,  buckle up; and courageously embrace your highway to healing and renewed joy.

She transparently reveals her trials; and triumphantly unveils the power of God that carried her through the loss of her beloved Father, Leonard Harry Addison, to Alzheimer’s disease.

Are you really a Christian “fiction” writer? (2)

Christian writers, do you know who you are? It is Father’s desire in this hour to have each one of us come to Him for clarity and understanding concerning our call. There is such a NEED in the earth realm for Holy, set apart scribes of the King. As believers of Yeshua, we are literally living in Him — breathing, moving and having our being. Our pursuit is for a constant manifestation of His presence and demonstration of His power.

Consider that final sentence for a moment.

It is quite ironic that Christian writers live in anticipation of and under the power of words, yet are the very ones who walk in darkness concerning the terminology used to describe who they are and what they do. Truly, the adversary is shrewd and cunning in his deception. His tactics work so well that we often build our entire identities concerning our writing ministries on patterns set by this world’s educational system and deny the power in identity rooted firmly in the Lord — even taking offense. There’s this need to hang on to the literary merit system for dear life — including its labels, ideologies and beliefs even when they completely contradict the Word on so many levels.

Something is sorely wrong with this picture.

For those reading this article, I challenge you with this before reading any further: “Give Ruach Hakodesh, Holy Spirit, permission to help you read the remainder of this article from Father’s perspective. Ask Him to take away any places of offense or agitation as we move forward.” This is important, because I don’t want you to hear me or see me. I want you to question whether or not this message sounds like something Father would share with His writers — His scribes — if He were standing right here teaching and instructing us. Completely ignore the messenger and grab hold of the message — and listen, just for a moment, to what Father is presenting to you.
