Read this article first: 65 Signs Your Child Might Be a Prophetic Scribe

Over the years, I’ve ministered to and prayed for hundreds of scribes who were blocked in their gifting and lost their voice due to childhood trauma. While we traditionally think of trauma in terms of obvious abuse, there are some hurts in our lives that are not as noticeable but just as abusive. Those trauma’s can be life-altering even if inflicted unintentionally. We need to be aware of those things too.

It’s easy to recognize musical gifts, interests in theatre, dance, and other creative areas. People tend to know how to nurture “the obvious.” But with prophetic scribes, it can be different. Just read the article, “65 Signs Your Child Might Be a Prophetic Scribe.” Because of some of those behaviors and habits, I was seen as a peculiar and annoying child by adults — especially as it related to my inquisitiveness and talkativeness.

In addition to helping adults in their scribal journey, I raised my own children – one of whom is a PROFOUND scribe. She’s so much like me I shiver sometimes thinking about it. But even when raising her, I made some of the mistakes that hurt me growing up. But the Lord woke me up and helped me correct the wrongs.

I’ve also mentored children (some were authors at 7 and 8 years of age) and helped parents unlock the scribal gift in their children through simple, fun activities and loads of conversation. Wounding in the area of your “gifting” can be debilitating later in life. No child should require a therapist or a life coach to “believe in their gifts.” I want to challenge you to be intentional in preventing abuse in this area.

The list below is based on things I’ve learned. You may have more to add to this list. The point is simple: Let’s encourage the gifts in our children by recognizing some of the actions that kill the gift of the scribe in them and deciding to put an end to them. In response to solutions, simply remember to be kind, considerate, extend our patience and respond in the way YOU would like people to respond to you. There IS A WAY to say everything with Holy Spirit’s guidance and help.

The following actions could hinder The Scribal Anointing in your child’s life:

1.  Punish them by taking their books, notebooks, journals… digital devices that they use to blog.
2. Tell them they are nosey because they relentlessly ask questions.
3. Tell them to “shut up” when they are talking.
4. Ignore their writings, poetry, short stories, etc. when they share it with you.
5. Talk over them when they are sharing a joke or cool story.

Here are some signs that your child may be a scribe. This list is based on years of study surrounding scribal ministry, life as a parent and working with parents who have children. If your child exhibits more than twenty-five of these signs and operates in them consistently and often, then they are probably be walking in some area of The Scribal Anointing®. (I strongly recommend the course, AM I A PROPHETIC SCRIBE? for parents to understand this gifting; my teachings on biblical scribes; and my book, “The Scribal Anointing: Scribes Instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven.”)

1. They like to read all the time.
2. They ask to go to the library or bookstore weekly. 
3. They love word games. 
4. They love crossword puzzles.

It’s shameful.

Sexual abuse allegations have cost the Roman Catholic Church in America nearly $4 billion over six decades in litigation and settlements, according to an in-depth investigation by the National Catholic Reporter. In a separate study, the scandals surrounding the allegations have resulted in lost membership and more than $2.3 billion annually in giving for the past 30 years (NCR).

Although the Catholic church is widely seen as the poster child for sexual abuse, the top three, leading faith-based insurance companies report that the Protestant Christian churches they ensure paid out $87.8 million in claims from 1987-2007 (Denney, Kerley, Gross 2). This data, however, is over a decade old but comes from the three leading insurance agencies that specialize in defending lawsuits against churches. Various reports conclude that the actual costs of the sexual abuse-related litigation and settlements are significantly higher for both Catholic and Protestant churches because they do not include litigation fees, monthly insurance premiums or other associated costs.

Question: Is it wrong to want to pray in writing instead of praying verbally?

Response: Absolutely not! Prayer is a condition of the heart, not the force of the mouth. Written prayers are just as effective as those placed in print, expressed through dance, touched through braille, released through instrumental music or described visually through American Sign Language (ASL).

Effective prayer is subjective to the person praying, listening or experiencing it, not a set of religious rules put forth by someone. There is, however, power in the spoken word – the release of a prayer at the sound of one’s voice, especially in corporate settings.  David put both concepts together beautifully in Psalm 19:14 when he said, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

1. The restoration of scribal groups, teams- administrative, creative and instruction. (The “intentional and purposeful” unifying of scribal groups for a specific, biblical mandate and call)

2. The awakening of scribal churches. (Leaders discovering that their whole churches are high in “scribal specific” culture, mandates and activity)

3. Moving from individuality in comprehending apostolic-prophetic scribal ministry to focus on scribal revival within the community. (Less focus on me, more focus on the Body)

4. A resurgence in preserving and protecting historical the apostolic-prophetic history of the church. (Expect to see a push to investigate, research, report and document with academic and prophetic accuracy the ACTS of the apostles and the history of the congregation. There will be a push to write, record and produce an accurate history that is reflective of the “entire” congregation not just a certain demographic)
