Beloved, it is over. I am calling you to move past the mistakes that you have made and into that forgiven place. I heard your cry of regret and sorrow surrounding the situation that spun out of control – be it in your personal life, close relationships or ministry. You have repented, and turned back to me…. and I have freely forgiven and received you, though men may not.

Today, I am calling you to move forward. I am calling you to raise your head high and declare that you are triumphant and free. I am calling you to rise above those who are continuously seeking your punishment or holding the hand of justice over your head.

INSIGHT BEFORE THE WORD

I was listening to a conversation among ministers, when I heard someone refer to members of their congregation as “dumb” sheep, as in unintelligent. They justified their comments by quoting a passage of scripture from a popular bible translation that uses the phrase. As you know, the word dumb (Isaiah 53:7) is actually referring to a state of being mute or silent – not stupid.

In love, I interrupted the conversation of the minister to add insight on the meaning of this word in context with the pastor. Thank God it was received. I learned, in further conversation, that table talk among pastors sometimes hold ungodly beliefs that sheep (which represent the people of the congregation) are not smart. Of course this misconception is rooted in such arrogance and pride.

Insight Before the Prophetic Word

The poem of the judge (scribe, officer) and prophet Deborah and the warrior Barak highlighted Israel’s victory over the Canaanites during one of the most tumultuous times in ancient biblical history. In the poem they sang (Judges 5), they listed the warriors responsible for Israel’s victory. Among them were a devout, royal group who carried the “commander’s staff” or the “marshal’s staff.”

The passage states, “The survivors came down to the nobles; the LORD’s people came down to meet with the warriors. Those with their roots in Amalek came from Ephraim; Benjamin came with your people after you. The leaders came down from Machir and those who carry a marshal’s staff came from Zebulun.” Judges 5:13-14

Scholars note that these commanders or marshals represented the lawgivers of that day (judges who were also scribes) who were responsible for the governmental task of engraving, recording and heralding historical victories. Most modern translations of the scripture have reworded this passage, losing its original, authentic translation. Strong historical study, however, brings it back into context thanks to the scribal scholars who value biblical historical accuracy.

INSIGHT BEFORE THE PROPHETIC WORD

Between 2005 and 2010, our literary teams and leaders would gather to pray for a prophetic awakening among scribes in Christian writing groups, book clubs, critique groups, literary societies, etc. We would cry out for these organizations to become more than just places to publish, produce, develop writing flow, etc.

We would place one question before the leaders in our midst: “What would happen if we began to pray INTO a spiritual movement in this area… in which Christian writers moved from embracing the single mantle of writer or prophetic writer into understanding the calling of the prophetic scribe?”  It would produce such a shift in the midst of these groups (especially the prophetic communities) that is destined to change the trajectory of Christian writing ministry and ministries on an intense community level — opening up the prophetic womb to reveal more than book publishing and blogging. From there, the scribal fire of revival would burn through the nations….
